Remember The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants? You know, the book series that became a surprisingly successful film franchise, and made Blake Lively all popular and whatnot? Well, it’s coming back!
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3 is in development under the title Sisterhood Everlasting, and it will center on the titular sisterhood ten years later. Since the last movie, they’ve grown apart, and it’s this disconnect that prompts Tibby (Amber Tamblyn) to try and reunite the old gang with a life-changing trip.
The previous two movies, released in 2005 and 2008, respectively, starred Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn as the four best friends united by a pair of pants, which is basically average life at a frat house. Based on the best-selling novels by author Ann Brashares, the first movie earned $39 million domestically, while the sequel grossed an impressive $44 million. So a third movie is a no-brainer, as long as they can get the original cast back together.
Sisterhood Everlasting, the novel from Brashares, will be adapted by Dawson’s Creek writer Liz Garcia. The film will also be directed by Ken Kwapis, who directed the original film. No word on when the film is expected to release, but for the record, this will make two teen movies for Alexis Bledel in which the title ends with Everlasting. Here’s hoping it’s more faithful to its source material than the last one.
