Disney Channel‘s groundbreaking original film musical, Let It Shine debuted Friday to stellar results!

According to a press release, the movie scored #1 for the year across all core kids demographics, scoring  3.0 million with Kids 2-11, 2.6 million in Kids 6-11, 2.3 million with Tweens, and 1.2 million for Adults 18-49. The premiere of “Let It Shine” gives Disney Channel its five top scripted TV telecasts among Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11 for the year. This continues a winning streak for the network, which has delivered basic cable TV’s #1 movie in Total Viewers since 2006  and the #1 movie telecast among Tweens since 2012.

The film, starring Tyler James Williams (Everybody Hates Chris) CoCo Jones (Disney’s Next Big Thing), and Trevor Jackson (Eureka) which is a re-imagining of  the Cyrano de Bergerac story (1837) is one of the only Disney Channel films to feature an all-black main cast and features a soundtrack which fuses both hip-hop and gospel music. Look for a review of the film later this week to see if the film lived up to its expectations or was just a good-hearted attempt.
