Goonies never say die, apparently.
After years of rumors that made its possible existence seem as unlikely to see the light of day as another Joel Schumacher Batman movie, it looks like we’re actually getting The Goonies 2. At least according to director Richard Donner.
The sequel to the 1985 classic about adolescents on the hunt for pirate treasure is reportedly on the fast track to production from producers Donner, Steven Spielberg, and Chris Columbus, who wrote the original. At the moment, the production is seeking writers and a director, since apparently little more than a vague concept exists for what the movie would even look like. Reports suggest the story will focus on the kids of the Goonies, and feature cameos from the original cast, presumably including Sean Astin, Martha Plimpton, Corey Feldman and Josh Brolin (although let’s be real. No Sloth, no dice).
Say what you will about seeing old stars in a cash grab nostalgia remake/sequel, but I’m uncommonly excited about this. Seriously, love me some Goonies.
